Key Bellevilles is different from other manufacturers in that we only make one product: bellevilles. We are the industries foremost expert on the design and manufacture of bellevilles. Key Bellevilles provides the following advantages over our competitors:
Robert J. Key is president and founder of Key Bellevilles, Inc. He is a graduate of Dickinson School of Law, Carlisle, Pennsylvania and resides in Allegheny Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.
In 1967, he purchased Ohio Springs Specialty, a division of Handy and Harman located in Cleveland, Ohio. Key Bellevilles added a production line to manufacture Belleville springs.
In 1969, Mr. Key moved the company to a new industrial park in Allegheny Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania in order to manufacture Belleville springs exclusively.
Since 1969, there has been a number of additions and now there are several buildings totaling 88,000 square feet. The last building was a warehouse of 11,000 square feet built in 2013. The purpose of this warehouse was to store the 35 million finished parts of over 10,000 different sizes that Key Bellevilles keeps in stock. Key Bellevilles, Inc. has the largest inventory of raw material and finished parts of any company in the world. Key Bellevilles is not only the largest manufacturing of Bellevilles, but also has become a master distributor. Approximately 85% of the orders received are shipped the same day or the next day.
Mr. Key's initial contribution to the company was in sales. He is a pilot and owns a single engine aircraft (Cessna 210). With the use of this airplane, Mr. Key was able to personally visit numerous companies in North America. Key Bellevilles has sold to at least 23,000 different customers. Key Bellevilles also has sold to companies in more than 67 different countries.
Mr. Key is proud of the fact that regardless of economic conditions, Key Bellevilles has not had a layoff in the past 40 years. During times when the market was slow, Key Bellevilles retained their employees and produced inventory so that it could supply their customers' needs. Key Bellevilles will design and manufacture special Bellevilles within 2 weeks. Key Bellevilles is able to do this because it has 2 engineers on staff at all times and its own die shop. Mr. Key still believes in the saying "You can't sell it, if you don't have it."
The company is definitely a family business with Mr. Key’s brother, Phil Key, vice president of engineering, his other brother, Rich Key, CFO. His daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter, grandson and a cousin Billy Key; the production supervisor are also all employed by Key Bellevilles.
